Heading up to 2025, Colombia will be on the short-list as a top place for your travels — considering she has some of the most exceptional culture in South America and striking variety which includes incredibly vibrant cities. It is truly an experience that everyone should have in their life time, and it has inspired me to travel more regularly.
1. Cartagena
The area is best known for its beautiful colonial architecture and vibrantly colored streets, including Cartagena. The historic walled city, one of India's UNESCO World Heritage sites offers a blend between ancient allure and modern charm. Experience its highlights – the castle of San Felipe de Barajas, pristine beaches and traditional street foods such as fresh seafood.
2. Medellín
Medellín known for its dark past is now a city abuzz with innovation and culture. It is named the "Land of Eternal Spring" because it has a spring-like climate year-round and vivacious nightlife. Hop on the Metrocable for beautiful views or explore Comuna 13, which is full of art and vibrant street life.
3. Eje Cafetero (Coffee Region)
This is probably the most beautiful part of Colombia and where you would find rolling hills covered in coffee trees, as well charming towns like Pereira Manizales y Armenia. Spend time at a coffee farm and learn how your favorite cup is made (and of course enjoy samples!). The beauty and charm of this region are perfect for hikes or even simple exploration.
4. Tayrona National Park
This natural paradise on the Caribbean coast is famous for its pristine beaches and great biodiversity. Make sure to hike lush rainforest trails en route to stunning beaches such as Cabo San Juan and La Piscina. The same beautiful scenery is also home to the archaeological ruins of Pueblito, where you can soak up even more (by now iconic) structures as well learn about the Tayrona people that once inhabited these lands.
5. Bogotá
A Colombian Capital renowned for its history, art & gastronom! You will explore pre-Columbian artifacts at the Gold Museum, take a walk down history lane in La Candelaria and ascend Monserrate Mountain for breathtaking views of the city. Savor arepas and ajiaco, among other classic dishes.
6. San Gil
Good for adrenaline junkies, San Gil is the adventure capital of Colombia. White Water Rafting;Paraguidligling caving and more… Meanwhile, this picture-perfect town also serves as the gateway to some beautiful natural spots such as the Chicamocha Canyon— one of the biggest canyons in South-America.
7. Villa de Leyva
Villa de Leyva- A gorgeous little colonial town that boasts beautifully preserved architecture and cobblestone streets. Plaza Mayor: host of numerous events and one of the largest squares in South America. Feast on local treats, browse artisan markets or discover sites dating back to the Spanish colonial era.
8. Cali
Cali is known as the salsa capital of the world and for that reason, has a lot on offer. Get the most out of its vibrant dance scene by enjoying some salsa classes or going to a club. A hotspot among serious eaters, the city serves sancocho and empanadas with mouth-watering gusto.
Colombia provides a smorgasbord of opportunities that are sure to surprise even the most well-traveled visitor. And as worlds reach the end of their rope in 2025, we will worry about winding up there soon enough.
